A. Wright Lambfoot Pocket Knife Blue Jigged Bone 31JB1

The jigged bone version of the A. Wright Lambfoot folding pocket knife features a mirror polished, C70 carbon steel blade and is available with blue, red or lime green jigged bone handle scales. 7 cm, (2.75 inches) long, 2.5 mm thick, mirror polish, C70 carbon steel, lamb foot blade. Rounded, nickel silver bolsters, brass handle liners, polished blue jigged bone handle scales.

Hand made in Sheffield England, A. Wright pocket knives have C70 carbon steel blades. Carbon steel pocket knives generally hold a better edge than stainless steel knives, but need to be cleaned and oiled after use to prevent corrosion. Surface corrosion can be removed with fine emery cloth.

The Lambfoot style of blade has a straight cutting edge with the blade back sloping down at almost 90 degrees to form a rounded or squared off point. Lamb foot blades make ideal work knives with the straight cutting edge allowing for accurate slicing. The blade shape has the added safety of a rounded point and lambfoot blades also make good wood carving knives.

A. Wright Carbon Steel Pocket Knife – Cutting Test

A. Wright pocket knives are hand made in Sheffield, England with a high standard of quality control at each step of the process. The blades of A. wright pocket knives are made of extremely hard steel, as the cutting test demonstrates. With a price point below £25 including VAT and UK delivery, the A. Wright carbon steel folding pocket knives represent excellent value for money.

From new, the knife is sharp enough to make a fairly clean cut through a sheet of 80 GSM white paper. Cutting an aluminium soft drink can in half is easy and does not make the knife blunt. Immediately after cutting through an aluminium drinks can, and without re-sharpening the blade, it is still possible to make a fairly clean cut through a sheet of 80 GSM paper.

The only drawback with a hard blade steel such as this, is the slight difficulty when it comes to re-sharpening the blade. In this case, sharpening the blade is made even harder by the curved shape of the edge. Blades with a straight cutting edge such as the Lambfoot design are much easier to sharpen.

When choosing a work knife, one of the main considerations is the ability to maintain a sharp cutting edge after lengthy use.

One of the new Otter-Messer knives available from January 2014 is a re-working of an established design. The small Anchor folding work knife, one of their best selling knives now has an added lanyard hole drilled in the handle. Drilling a hole in the handle of a folding knife may seem like a no brainer in terms of design. The hard part is fitting the knife blade and back spring together so the blade does not impinge on the hole when closed. If this were to happen, the blade would cut through any lanyard inserted through the hole.

The luxury version of the stainless blade, small Anchor 174R knife will be available with a pre-attached leathers trip lanyard cord attached. Meanwhile, carbon steel versions of the small Anchor 174 knife have a drilled lanyard hole from now on. Following the recent announcement of product quality improvements and a new blade sharpening service, all new Otter knives are shipping with a near razor factory edge.
