Pocket Work Knife Loewen 1155

Loewen 1155 Pocket Work Knife

The Loewen 1155 pocket knife has a rounded, safety tip and a folding blade which is easy to open under working conditions. Note: carbon steel blades will hold a longer lasting cutting edge, but are more susceptible to corrosion than stainless steel. For this reason it is recommended to clean and oil carbon steel blades after use. A premium version of the Loewen pocket work knife is also available with polished Bubinga wood handle scales at a slightly higher retail price.

The Loewen Messer 1155 pocket work knife has a 7.6 cm long, blunt ended, chisel grind, carbon steel blade. The chisel grind, means the primary bevel is only ground on one side of the blade, with the other side ground completely flat. This give a thicker, stronger cutting edge ideal for horticultural work, pruning, budding and grafting, harvesting etc. The 1155 pocket work knife is constructed with synthetic green scales, fitted to stainless handle liners. A. Wright Sheffield Carbon Steel Folding Knives

A. Wright Carbon Steel Pocket Knife – Cutting Test

A. Wright pocket knives are hand made in Sheffield, England with a high standard of quality control at each step of the process. The blades of A. wright pocket knives are made of extremely hard steel, as the cutting test demonstrates. With a price point below £25 including VAT and UK delivery, the A. Wright carbon steel folding pocket knives represent excellent value for money.

From new, the knife is sharp enough to make a fairly clean cut through a sheet of 80 GSM white paper. Cutting an aluminium soft drink can in half is easy and does not make the knife blunt. Immediately after cutting through an aluminium drinks can, and without re-sharpening the blade, it is still possible to make a fairly clean cut through a sheet of 80 GSM paper.

The only drawback with a hard blade steel such as this, is the slight difficulty when it comes to re-sharpening the blade. In this case, sharpening the blade is made even harder by the curved shape of the edge. Blades with a straight cutting edge such as the Lambfoot design are much easier to sharpen.

When choosing a work knife, one of the main considerations is the ability to maintain a sharp cutting edge after lengthy use.

Eye Witness 2 Blade Lambfoot Pocket Knife Hardwood Handle

The hardwood handle version of the 2 blade Eye Witness, Lambfoot folding pocket knife is hand made in Sheffield, England. Lambfoot folding pocket knives have been made in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and used by Yorkshire sheep farmers for hundreds of years. The traditional Sheffield folding work knife has a rounded tip with a straight cutting edge. The difference between Lamb Foot and Sheep Foot blade shapes is down to the width of the blade, with Sheep Foot design being wider.

Due to manufacturing complexity, 2 blade pocket knives such as this are rarely found. The blades need to be fitted so that there is no blade play and at the same time remain easy to open. The Eye Witness, Sheffield 2 blade lambfoot pocket knife contains a 2.75 inch lambfoot blade paired with a 1.9 inch spear point blade. Both blades are 2 mm thick, flat grind, stainless steel.
