Designed over 300 years ago in Sheffield, England, the Barlow pocket knife was originally a large, single bladed, low cost work tool. For added strength, the metal handle bolster was extended to approximately one third of the length of the handle. The bolster is the part of the handle which encases the blade pivot and is the point of greatest strain. High-end Barlows are now made in Sheffield with exotic handle materials, including mother of pearl, buffalo horn, ironwood and carbon fibre, featuring custom file worked back-springs.
Mens Gift Ideas - Engraved Pocket Knives make ideal mens' gifts for special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries graduations etc. Computer controlled, diamond tip engraving is used to permanently inscribe initials or a longer message on the metal handle bolster. The personalised inscribing on the folding knife also acts as an effective theft deterrent.

Lamb Foot and Sheep Foot Blades have a rounded blade tip, which does not taper towards the point. This blade shape is stronger and safer to use and these make ideal work knives. Because of the straight cutting edge, Lamb Foot blades are often preferred for wood carving. There is less chance of slippage, as there is no curve in the blade. In addition they can be used with the thumb resting on the spine of the blade. This is also an excellent blade for accurate slicing, because of the straight edge.
